Classical Ballet School
Founded in 1978 by Kay Sandel, Classical Ballet School offers professional instruction in classical Russian ballet technique for students of all ages. Drawing on her heritage from teachers Roman Jasinski and Moscelyne Larkin (Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo), Kay Sandel, through School Director, Julie Bierne, is passing to students a firm foundation in classical training.
Classes range in levels from creative movement/pre-ballet through advanced/pre-professional and are designed to prepare students for a performing career, a teaching career, or to enhance the student’s pure enjoyment and appreciation of dance as a creative art form. The study of dance instills a respect for hard work and provides the student with many lifelong benefits, including good posture, self-discipline and confidence.
The philosophy of Classical Ballet School is to facilitate learning in order for every student to achieve their maximum potential. The high standards are tempered by a motivating, encouraging and enthusiastic learning environment. Classical Ballet School is committed to providing developmentally appropriate instruction over the course of a dancers' education.
Located in northwest Oklahoma City and convenient to Edmond, the facility was specially built for dance and has a beautiful, brightly lit, spacious studio with a sprung floor covered with a nonslip dance surface for the safety of the dancers.
Annual performances allow students to demonstrate their progress in a professional theatrical setting. Classical Ballet School produces a full-length story ballet at the end of every school season. Past performances have included The Sleeping Beauty, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Coppelia, The Snow Queen, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. A sampling of performance photos may be viewed by clicking the Gallery tab. Parents may observe the student’s continued progress during twice yearly Visitor's Weeks and through the studio viewing window.
