Bring a homemade or purchased valentine for your Piqué Pal

We have so many new students that I have had to expand and adjust our Piqué Pals list.  Click the button below to check for your Piqué Pal.

The purpose of Piqué Pals is to pair younger students with older students to foster a warm and welcoming environment and to build bonds that will last through their dancing years.  There are several Piqué Pals events throughout the year and Pals get to be with each other backstage during our annual performance.

2/17/18   cecchetti master class with jodY isenhour

I am excited to announce this is wonderful opportunity for our Upper School students who take the regular Saturday 1:30p class.  Jody Isenhour has been teaching the Cecchetti Method of ballet for over 30 years.  Jody is my Cecchetti coach and I have been working with her to learn and prepare for the first level of Cecchetti teacher certification.

2/13/18   *UPDATED* t-shirt contest INFORMATION

We still do not have a winner for our contest so I am extending the contest to March 31st.  Our students are doing a good job of wearing their shirts in public but we still need more online action!  Remember, 5 points for each FB or Instagram Post - only 1 point for each wearing.  (50 point minimum to qualify as a winner)

Also, I have updated the TAGGING information, so click the button below for corrected instructions.

Classical Ballet is Everywhere!

12/20/2017  NEW & wonderful!

The Enchanted Forest Frame Cleaned Up.png

Exciting things are happening at Classical Ballet School and I want to let you know what this means for our current families.  The programs outlined below will begin on our return from Winter Break, January 8, 2018.

The school is now divided into an UPPER SCHOOL and a LOWER SCHOOL.

all students will remain in their current classes - you don't need to do anything!

LOWER SCHOOL:  Current classes for students age 2 years through First Grade have been transitioned to our new Enchanted Forest program.  If you missed the information about it during visitor's week, you can read about the program HERE.  Classical Ballet School's Enchanted Forest is designed for both girls and boys and is truly unique; I don't know of anything like it anywhere in the country.  We are even building our own little "forest cove" for the children - complete with twinkle lights, wisteria blossoms, fish pond rug, and lots of magic!

PUDDLE JUMPERS (formerly Dance with Me)

SPRITES & ALVEN (formerly Creative Movement)

PIXIES & BROWNIES (new class)

SYLPHS & ZANE  (formerly Pre-Ballet)

UPPER SCHOOL:  Classes for students in Level 2 through Level 5 have been transitioned to our new Upper School Company progression.  At Classical Ballet School we place a high value on the performance process as a vehicle for valuable experiences and important life lessons.  I thought it fitting then, that our new levels should be named after a rank system used by many professional ballet companies.

CORPS DE BALLET  (formerly Level 1)

CORYPHÉES (formerly Level 2)

DEMI-SOLOISTS  (formerly Level 3)

SOLOISTS  (formerly Level 4)

PRINCIPALS  (formerly Level 5)

The new school structure is a complete year-round ballet education.  This system is designed to keep the student at their peak level and will help to alleviate the significant loss of technique that happens over long breaks.  The student will be automatically re-enrolled in the appropriate level every August 1st.  Holiday breaks will remain the same.

There will be a two summer breaks:

  1. Between the performance and the summer program
  2. From the end of the summer program until the second week of August when classes normally resume.

During the breaks, "maintenance" classes will be held as often as possible for Upper School students, Demi-Soloists through Principals at no charge.  Adult students are encouraged to take these classes using their Dance Card.

Tuition now includes a week-long summer program: There are no regular classes scheduled in July - only the summer program.

looking forward

I am currently in discussion with representatives of the Cecchetti Council of America about becoming a certified teacher.  The CCA represents the venerable teaching method of Enrico Cecchetti (1850-1928) who codified his world famous method in the early 20th century and of whom it was said, "No one could become a finished ballet dancer without passing through Cecchetti's hands."  The Cecchetti Method is often called "The Italian School of Ballet." (School meaning method)

The goal of my becoming fully certified, which is an eight year process, is to bring a cohesion and consistency to the students' training.   From child to young adult, students will learn, take examinations, and progress through the Method to become self-assured confident dancers and persons.  The Cecchetti Method is known for producing strong, accomplished, versatile dancers.

I will keep you updated on my progress.  If you would like to learn more about Cecchetti and his Method, watch the video below and then click HERE.

Enrico Cecchetti was one of the most influential ballet teachers of all time, coaching greats such as Pavlova and Nijinsky. In 1918, Cecchetti settled in London, laying the groundwork for the formation of The Royal Ballet. Join Ballet Mistress Ursula Hageli and dancer Nicol Edmonds as they demonstrate one of Cecchetti's fiendishly hard adage exercises.
